The five best scrambing routes in Lochaber
Lochaber has four classic scrambling routes centered around Fort William and one incredible mountain traverse on the Isle of Rum.
Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Deag arete
This horseshoe ridge walk is possibly the most spectacular in the country. The brooding north face of Ben Nevis overshadows Carn Mor Deag creating a fantastic atmosphere along the arete.
The Aonoch Eagach is probably the most famous ridge walk in Scotland, an airy traverse high above the valley floor with a fantastic pub at the end – what’s not to love?
Curved ridge follows an imposing line up the front of Buachaille Etive Mor, it’s hard to believe this is only a scramble when the route is viewed from the road.
Isle of Rum
The remote Rum Cuillin is possibly one of the best ridge walks in the UK, a true adventure.
Ring of Steall
The fabulously named Ring of Steall has four munros, great scrambling and bags of exposure.
